Pi Kappa Phi kicked off its annual bike-a-thon raising money and awareness for people with disabilities on Friday afternoon near the Purdue belltower. This version of a bike-a-thon is for 24 hours and will conclude at 5 p.m. Saturday before the homecoming game against Florida Atlantic.
Another ride – the 12th Annual David Feltner 72-Hour Memorial Bike-a-Thon will be during Centennial week for the chapter.
Chapter members wanted to continue their tradition of raising funds along the pathway toward the football stadium and honor Felter, a chapter member who died in 2011 from cancer, in the same year. Thus, two fund-raisers for The Ability Experience, the national fraternity’s outreach program.
Riders commit to at least an hour on one of three stationary bikes and to raise funds to do so. Another set of brothers will man a donation table throughout the 24-hour ride this week.
