Pi Kappa Phi celebrated its 25th year of commitment to service and fund-raising through a cycling event on April 6 in a record-setting way.
The Pi Kapp 100 was established in 1999 by chapter members trying to come up with a spring event to assist people with disabilities. The 2014 version featured the most-ever participation by chapter members when 29 riders and 8 crew participated in the 100-kilometer cycling event from an Indianapolis suburb to the Purdue campus area.
Chapter members raised nearly $5,000 to support The Ability Experience, the national fraternity’s outreach program to assist people with disabilities both locally and nationally.
Gear Up Florida alumnus and former president Andrew Eichmeier as well as 2024 GUF rider and Ability Experience Chairman Joe Barbera coordinated the ride.
Pi Kappa Phi would like to thank our sponsors as well – Dave’s Automotive out of Valparaiso, Browns Superior out of Dayton, Virtuous Cycles of Lafayette and St. Louis deMontfort of Fishers – for their part in coming our event so successful.
Omega chapter alumnus Phil Leslie came from the Chicago area to be part of the event that was established during his time as an undergraduate.
