Recently, the fraternity organized an event on its lawn promoting “Donut Use the ‘R’ Word” alongside clients from its ongoing partnership with a local non-profit.
Passers-by could stop by a table at Pi Kappa Phi and share donuts (with a donation) with nearly a dozen folks from Life Has No Boundaries, which serves adults with disabilities More than 30 fraternity members played yard games for more than two hours and shared donuts with partnership clients.
The event asked members of the Purdue community to not use the “R” word (retarded) when referencing people with special needs.
The occasion raised more than $300 toward the chapter’s annual fund-raising for The Ability Experience, the national fraternity’s service project that benefits people with disabilities locally and beyond.
