Seven chapter members completed the 950-mile trek from Miami to Tallahassee on May 24 as part of the 2025 Gear Up Florida national cycling event.
36 riders and crew from Pi Kappa Phi chapter across the nation take part during the May event raising money and awareness for people with disabilities alongside The Ability Experience. During the trip, the group participates in Friendship Visits with organizations that support people with disabilities. Events include wheelchair basketball, dancing, water sports, softball and other activities.
The 7 guys from the Omega chapter raised $23,101 for the cause.
Riders included Connor Clayton, Kyle Clayton, Jose Rodriguez-Argonz, Josh Ball, Pablo Bustamante and Ryan Pirro. Ryan Fraga was on the crew. The 7-man contingent were the most from any chapter nationally. The closest competitors were Western Illinois (with 4) and Texas Christian (3).
Two other Purdue chapter members – Justin Bonanno and Wesley Bodwell – will ride in the 2025 Journey of Hope starting on June 4 in Seattle and ending on Aug. 9 in Washington, DC.
The chapter itself also raises money and awareness for people with disabilities. Through late May 2025. the Omega chapter has raised $32,057 in the spring semester, ranking it No. 1 among the national fraternity’s 180+ chapters.
