On Aug. 24, nearly 40 prospective members listened to a five-man panel about what Pi Kappa Phi does for and with people with disabilities alongside its national outreach program, The Ability Experience.
Those prospective members learned about chapter-level programming and fund-raising efforts including the David Feltner Memorial Bike-a-Thon, Arctoberfest, Pi Kapp 100 and War of the Roses. Those local events alongside events co-sponsored with Best Buddies-Purdue, benefit adults with mental and physical disabilities, occur throughout the academic year.
Every Pi Kappa Phi undergraduate member is expected to participate in the events that serve as outreach programming to the local community. Furthermore, last school year the chapter was able to award two $7,500 Circle of Giving grants to Life Has No Boundaries and the Arc of Tippecanoe. A quarter of the chapter’s fund-raising comes back to the local community to assist people with disabilities.
Thus far, more than 30 prospective new members received bids, offering them to be a chance at being part of the award-winning Purdue fraternity. The fall recruitment period for the chapter ends next week.
