As an ongoing effort to assist people with disabilities, nine chapter members volunteered in an adult day program on Nov. 3.
Pi Kappa Phi at Purdue sends members nearly every week of the academic year to Life Has No Boundaries, a local non-profit agency. For more than a decade starting in 2007, the fraternity has sent volunteers to Lafayette Jefferson High School. After a staff change at the school, the chapter followed the former teacher to her start-up assisting post-high school young adults in an adult day program.
Now, chapter members play games and provide support to the Life Has No Boundaries staff. Events can also include community outings such as grocery shopping, enjoying a city park or visiting local educational facilities.
In addition to working with Life Has No Boundaries, the fraternity works with the Arc of Tippecanoe at least twice a year for its large public events – Arctoberfest in the fall and the Second Change Prom in the spring.
Our involvement in the local community is part of our commitment to The Ability Experience, the national fraternity’s outreach program raising funds and awareness of people with disabilities.
