The final 24 hours of the Seventh Annual David Feltner Memorial Bike a Thon started at 1:30 p.m. amid a flurry of activities.
The event, which benefits The Ability Experience, is being held near the belltower in the middle of the Purdue campus. The chapter is doing fund-raising for the national philanthropic effort helping people with disabilities.
Activities happening at the 48-hour mark of the 72 hours include:
- A virtual ride along by Ability Experience CEO Basil Lyberg and chapter alumnus Mike McBride. The two rode stationary bikes in their office in Charlotte, North Carolina and were broadcast on Facebook Live. The pair committed to donating money to the Purdue chapter’s behalf and the organization was matching funds raised during their hour-long ride.
- Snow cones made their return to the scene of the bike a thon. They are very popular as the campus is experiencing 90+ degree weather with the heat index nearing 100.
- Across the sidewalk of the bike a thon, Purdue is dedicating the new Wilmeth Active Learning Center at 3 p.m. So, hundreds of people gathered for the dedication will be exposed to the chapter’s efforts and no doubt will be assisting in snow cone sales.
The bike a thon will end at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, just prior to the Michigan at Purdue homecoming football game. Candy and Steve Feltner, parents of the late chapter undergraduate David who died of a rare form of cancer in 2011, will ride the final five minutes of the 72-hour event.
