More than 200 prospective members visited with Pi Kappa Phi members on Aug. 18 as the Purdue campus started the fall fraternity recruitment period.
The University-sponsored Meet the Greeks and cooperatives was moved up a couple of hours on Sunday starting at 1 rather than 3 p.m., due to expected storms that were to hit the area in the late afternoon. The Memorial Mall event drew hundreds as nearly 150 stopped by the Pi Kappa Phi booth and registered.
Afterwards, the focus turned to a meet the brothers event back at the chapter house, 330 N. Grant St. for a 5 p.m. recruitment event with more than 65 attending.
“Despite the last-minute time change for Meet the Greeks, I think the event turned out very well,” recruitment chairman Mark Perkins said. “It’s always exciting to talk to the next generation for the Greek community. I’m optimistic about the future of our fraternity and Greek life as a whole.”
Pi Kappa Phi is seeking men who want to improve themselves in the Greek experience through growing, achieving and serving.
The chapter has three other new member recruitment events scheduled the first week of school. They include:
• 5- 7 p.m., Monday, Aug. 19 (first day of classes), Meet and Greet the Brothers at the chapter house.
• 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 21, Room Talks. Prospective new members will be escorted through the house taken to rooms where various themes important to chapter membership will be discussed.
• 10 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Aug. 24, 7 on 7 Football at the T-Rec.
Pi Kappa Phi is one of 42 fraternities, but has been the most honored chapter ever. In 9 of the last 12 years, it has earned the RB Stewart Award as Purdue’s best fraternity. Furthermore, in May 2019, it received the “Award of Distinction” from the North American Interfraternity Conference as 1 of the top 5 fraternities nationally (out of 6,000+ chapters on 800 campuses).
