Nearly 300 people are expected to attend the April 14 Pi Kappa Phi Moms Day events at Purdue.
The chapter holds its annual Moms Day alongside Purdue’s Springfest, which draws more than 25,000 to the campus. You can learn about the Springfest activities here:https://ag.purdue.edu/springfest/pages/default.aspx
The fraternity has events throughout the day with key times being the 12:30 p.m., Pi Kapp 100 arrival on the front lawn, the 4 p.m. auction in the Great Hall and the 6:30 p.m. banquet in the Purdue Memorial Union.
The detailed agenda is listed below.
Please note a couple of things: First, lunch is not provided (except for those who participate in the Pi Kapp 100) and the dress for the day as well as the evening banquet is casual.
If it’s your first time to a Moms Day, welcome and don’t despair. There are several times throughout the day we gather as a group, but you will also be given an opportunity to share some quality time with your son outside all the activities. Namely, you will be able to go out to lunch with him at 1 p.m. and be back at the chapter house in the 3:30 to 4 p.m. range and not miss a thing.
Auction items needn’t be anything extravagant. Items have included Purdue or Pi Kappa Phi sportswear, Cubs or White Sox tickets, lottery tickets, potted plants, homemade jewelry or old beer signs from your garage. One thing that brought one of the highest bids ever was two dozen homemade chocolate chip cookies delivered to the house each week during the school year by a local mom. Somebody’s mom, and her son, had a sweet tooth that year.
Look at our photo albums from past Moms Day on this website for auction item ideas. And if you don’t bring anything with you when you arrive, there will be an opportunity for you to look at what others brought and then make a trip to a discount department store or near-campus bookstores (one being two blocks away from the chapter house).
There is no charge for chapter members’ moms for the day, but if you bring guests they have to pay. Proceeds from the auction help pay for the mid-afternoon appetizers, rented chairs and banquet. You will have the option to donating your auction purchase costs to the chapter’s annual fund-raising for The Ability Experience, a non-profit benefitting people with disabilities (a tax-exempt contribution).
