Who is Pi Kappa Phi?
That’s an entirely appropriate question that should be posed by men considering joining the Greek system and might be interested in our chapter. That’s a legitimate question for parents, too.
In a nutshell, the Omega chapter (Omega being the 24th letter of the Greek alphabet, meaning our chapter is the 24th Pi Kappa Phi chapter national fraternity) is about four primary things. They include:
• Servant Leadership
• Philanthropy
• Academic Achievement
• Leadership
There is an expectation that our members become servant leaders. That means serving others in various ways. One of the most visible ways is through The Ability Experience, a national outreach program assisting people with disabilities. For Omega, that means volunteering in a local special needs high school classroom and working alongside local agencies such as the Arc of Tippecanoe.
It also means that we partner with the Purdue Greek community in their philanthropic efforts. That means participating in other organizations outreach and fund-raising efforts.
We expect our chapter members to achieve academically, too. Historically, Pi Kappa Phi has been in the Top 10 in grades at Purdue. In the last two semesters’ rankings (Fall 2019 statistics are not available yet), the chapter has ranked No. 4 (out of 41 chapters) and No. 9. In the most recent statistics, we had 6 members with a perfect 4.0 and 71.2 percent earned a 3.0 or higher.
We have an expectation that chapter members participate in various campus organizations and honorary socities. For example, we had the Interfraternity Council president in 2019 among our membership along with various other lower level positions. Furthermore, we had the co-director of Old Masters and several leadership positions within the Purdue University Dance Marathon.
Because of our priorities and excellence among our members, Pi Kappa Phi has been named the top fraternity at Purdue 9 of the last 12 years. Also, the chapter was named one of the Top 5 in the nation by the North American Interfraternity Council for 2019.
So, when we refer to our chapter as Purdue’s Best and Nation’s Best, there is ample justification for such.
We encourage you to peruse the chapter’s website – www.purduepikapps.com – and our social media accounts, such as Facebook and Instagram (search for Pi Kappa Phi at Purdue in both), to learn more about the chapter and its programming. We think you’ll understand why Pi Kappa Phi sets the standard at Purdue.
Typically, we get 10 prospective new members through our doors for every 1 that we select. It’s very competitive. So, if service, academic achievement and leadership are your priorities, Pi Kappa Phi might be for you.
Our rush schedule is available on our website pull down menu under “recruitment.” There you will find our schedule as well as whom to contact. All recruitment events are held from 6 to 8 p.m. at the chapter house, 330 N. Grant St., unless otherwise noted.
Congratulations on your interest in the Purdue Greek system. It’s one of the best in the nation!
