On Dec. 3, more than 60 brothers partnered with a campus organization that assists people with disabilities to sponsor a Christmas Party in a municipal facility in Lafayette.
Some clients of the now defunct Arc of Tippecanoe and others who work with Best Buddies-Purdue joined with fraternity members for limbo dancing, building gingerbread houses and best Christmas sweater competition during a two-hour event at the Bauer Community Center.
Best Buddies brought a half-dozen volunteers and 10 people with disabilities to the event that had snacks, fellowship and laughter.
The Christmas Party substituted for 13 years of Arctoberfest, a costume Halloween party that the groups have done previously.
Pi Kappa Phi at Purdue is committed to service and the December event is one such example. The local chapter works with the national fraternity’s outreach program, The Ability Experience, through fund raising and outreach for people with disabilities.
