Pi Kappa Phi welcomed more than 30 new members last week who come from 13 different states and 8 different academic schools at Purdue.
Not surprisingly, more than half come from Indiana (17) and engineering being the most selected academic school (11) at the university.
The second most states represented are Ohio and Illinois with 3 each. The remaining 10 states have one guy from each of them including: California, Connecticut, Kansas, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Maryland, Minnesota, Texas and Washington.
Behind engineering as their academic schools of choice include, business (9), followed by health and human services (5), exploratory studies (3) and technology (2). Three other schools had 1 student each – integrated business and engineering, liberal arts and science.
Other interesting facts of the class include:
- 7 received highest academic honors in high school, including a salutatorian and a national merit scholar
- A state baseball champion
- A student manager of the Purdue basketball team
- At least 2 started their own companies
- 11 team captains in sports including football, baseball, hockey, track, cross country and lacrosse
- DECA (Distributive Education Clubs of America) state champion and national runner up
